Paper Beads

August is usually quite a lean month when it comes to teaching, so I was very happy to be asked to make jewellery with the ladies of a well known firm in Burton-on-Trent. As most of my workshops are about recycling, I thought it was time to show the group how to make paper into beautiful beads. I presented them the paper and the finished beads and waited for the incredulous looks and comments… Soon everyone was busy with a strip of paper, a cocktail stick and some glue. It didn’t take long for the group to master the technique and then be eager to make a pair of earrings and go back to the office proudly wearing them.

On a sad note this may my last workshop here, as the main office is closing at the beginning of September and those who were not prepared to relocate to Wolverhampton will no longer be employed. After 4 years of taking workshops here, I shall miss the place and the people and the foresight of the company to provide their hard working employees with a bit of light relief once in a while.

What a shame the office is closing. Those beads are lovely. You’d never guess by looking at them that they’re made of paper – very clever! Enjoy wool week.
